There are few better romantic experiences than staying in a 12th century Tuscan Castle and that is exactly what Castello del Nero offers you and your loved one. A world of rolling hills, breathtaking vistas, Chianti wine and fine Italian dining, all a short drive away from the beautiful city of Florence in Italy. Situated in the town of Tavarnelle Val di Pesa, the beautiful 5* resort, originally home to the noble Florentine family Del Nero, is this year celebrating it’s 10th anniversary with the announcement of a series of events and deals that we think could be right up your street if you’re looking for a super relaxed summer Italian getaway.
Castello del Nero Hotel & Spa is a member of the Leading Hotels of the World and is surrounded by 740 acres of Tuscan hills perfect for a romantic journey into wine and gastronomy. The beauty of this resort is its heritage whilst at the same time the management have delicately blended modern and luxury amenities into the experience. Comprised of 50 rooms and suites the resort is small which creates a feeling of exclusivity and solitude. All of the rooms have been painstakingly restored to a level of detail that compliments the history of the architecture. On the first floor of the main building guests can still look on to the crests of the Del Nero family. In selected suites guests can sleep on a beautiful bed that has been replicated to the design of the Marquise Teresa Torrigiani from the 16th century. Initially an original bed was found on site however it was in a state of disrepair and so replicas were made.
Whilst on site you can take advantage of the excellent range of activities that are provided. Guests can embark on a truffle hunting adventure, perfect for aspiring chefs and gourmet connoisseurs. Explore the local area with a guide and his trusty truffle hunting dog companion. Tuscany is the only area where you can find all 6 varieties of truffles. You will then enjoy a much deserved four course truffle lunch served in the charming village of Badia A Paasingnano. If you don’t fancy hunting for your food then why not enrol on the cooking classes at Castello del Nero with head chef Giovanni Luca Di Pirro. Learn how to make ravioli with ricotta on the ‘All About Pasta’ class or the perfect Ragu sauce. To finish you’ll learn how to make the perfect Tiramisu. You can even take home the recipe cards for your lunch so that you can impress your friends at home. After lunch why not take a walk along Promenade of the Marquise, a serene path through cypress trees that was created for the Marquise to provide her solitude and shade to the nearby woodland. A little insider tip, if you walk through the estate in the very early hours, you may well see deer, hares and pheasants.
The dining at Castello del Nero is superb with a Michelin star rated restaurant, La Torre, and a more relaxed laid back option La Taverna where you can choose to have your dinner al fresco by the pool. Many of the dishes in the restaurants are served alongside vegetables and herbs that are grown in the hotel’s very own gardens ensuring optimum freshness.
Why not visit the hotel spa and have a couple’s treatment for ultimate relaxation and wellbeing. The treatments located in the aromatic Turkish bath, sauna or ice fountain have been created using products grown at Castello del Nero. Extra virgin olive oil that is rich in natural anti-oxidants, lavender and rosemary are all harvested on site and used in the treatments. These signature treatments have been designed to evoke a true feeling of Tuscany whilst giving added benefits to your mind and body. Choose from a wide selection of facials, massages and wraps to suit your body’s needs and desires. For the hotel’s 10th anniversary they have designed a Gold package. The ritual begins with a welcome foot massage and lavender infused herbal tea, a back exfoliation with oil, sage and sea salts before a deep muscle back massage. The treatment is finished with a facial and scalp massage. Once your treatment is finished you can continue to wind down in the vitality pool or the hotel’s fitness suite whilst enjoying the view.
Guests that are looking to explore the wider area of Tuscany can rent from the hotel a couple of Vespas or even an original Fiat 500 – (we love the idea of this!). There are countless vineyards to explore, hiking trails, horse riding or even a hot air balloon ride to see Tuscany in style.
So in short, if you’re wanting to have the true Tuscan experience of both the countryside retreat and exploring the beautiful cities of Florence and Pisa, we think that Castello del Nero is surely place for you both, yes?
