Here at Hero and Leander we are all about grand romantic gestures and exciting experiences that you can share as a couple, however this is not everybody’s cup of tea. Some people cringe at the very thought of sunset strolls and bouquets of roses (although H&L are rather partial to the odd cliché) but even though extravagant declarations of love can be appealing, sometimes the smaller gestures can be just as romantic. The notion of eating fish and chips by the seaside is one not often associated with romance and is hugely underestimated as an intimate experience. In Britain we are lucky enough to have one of the most spectacular coastlines teeming with glorious rugged beaches to stroll upon, often in close proximity to a good old British chippy. Here at H&L we have scoured the UK trying the best fish & chips by the seaside- we know, tough job- and we have decided upon our favourites.
Whether you are strolling along the pebbled beach at Aldeburgh with the back drop of picture perfect pastel houses, the beach hunt lined golden sandy coast at Abersoch beach or along the heathland and sand dunes of Studland’s Jurassic coast, the enchanting beauty will captivate your minds with a humble and unassuming romance. As wonderful as summertime by the British seaside can be, the hordes of eager tourists can somewhat dampen the romantic spirit. Subject to weather conditions, autumn and winter are ideal times of year to stroll along the beach whilst tucking into golden and crisp batter encasing the flaky fresh white fish and chunky chips doused in delicious salt and vinegar – watch out for the scavenging seagulls.
Snuggling up together whist the wind whips through your hair, watching the swirling rough seas as the sky presents over 50 shades of grey can be thrilling and intimate; the chances are you may be the only ones on the beach. This is an experience that no restaurant could ever replicate. Tip: Wrap up warm! It can get very chilly.
