The 4th July takes the definition of celebration to another level in the USA. The Americans really know how to party, so in a little tribute to our friends across the pond, we have found the best Independence Day events in London. Happy 4th July Y’all!
Avenue Restaurant Crawfish Boil in collaboration with Crayfish Bob
On Saturday 9th July, modern American restaurant, Avenue, is hosting a traditional Louisiana crawfish boil in collaboration with Crayfish Bob. To help reduce the numbers of American Signal crayfish in British waterways, Bob has been popping up all over the UK with his authentic Cajun recipe of smoked sausage, corn on the cob and potatoes, boiled with crawfish and spices. The Southern American crayfish dish will be served on large sharing platters. Prices at £60, guests will be welcomed to the event with a punch cocktail on arrival, before tucking into the traditional crawfish dish with a glass of fizz and finishing with a slice of pecan pie. There will be live music from Crayfish Bob & the Cray Twins and a DJ ‘til late, for an all-American Independence Day celebration.
American Style Brunch At Hanger SW6
America’s most celebrated day of the year, 4th of July, is fast approaching and Hanger sw6, the newly opened neighborhood steak restaurant and liquor bar are debuting their weekend American style brunch just in time for the party. Launching on the 2nd of July, all day weekend brunching never looked so good with takes on the American classics such as steak ‘n’ eggs with hanger steak, fried duck egg, hash browns, hanger relish and the brunch bap with venison sausage, fried egg, sticky onions on a potato bap or if you are looking for more of an English twist the florence eggs with toasted crumpets, poached eggs, spinach, avocado, hollandaise and either charred bacon or hanger steak to top it off. For those looking to truly kick off the weekend (or continue it) the downstairs liquor bar have mixed up some refreshing and reviving cocktails such as the hanger-over, hanger’s very own take on a the Bloody Mary and the crackbaby a vodka based cocktail made with orange, passion fruit and prosecco. For the duration of the 4th of July weekend, Hanger sw6 will be offering unlimited bloody hangers and bellinis for £15 per person for the duration of a 2 hour sitting.
The Gallery In West Hampstead Present Whisky 101: Beer, Bourbon and BBQ
On the 4th of July, The Gallery in West Hampstead will celebrate US Independence Day with an evening of trans-Atlantic festivities. The Gallery have invited adventuresome, London-based brewers Fourpure, and Heaven Hill, a classic Kentucky distiller, for a night of beer and bourbon exploration. This ‘Whisky 101’ event will feature a sumptuous barbecue menu and live Blues music, bringing a hearty dose of Americana to North‐West London. The evening will be hosted by The Gallery’s Bar Manager and resident beer and whisky enthusiast, Daniel Pavey, alongside John Driebergen from Fourpure and Phil Wilson from Heaven Hill. This engaging trio will immerse guests into the unique flavours of Kentucky; from the sweet notes of Mellow Corn Bottled in Bond whisky to the fiery Rittenhouse Straight Rye, the smooth caramel finish of The Elijah Craig Small Batch 12yr old Bourbon to the light honey warmth of The Evan Williams Extra Aged Bourbon. This southern exploration will be complemented by samples of beers from closer to home. Guests will sample Skyliner Wheat, Shapeshifter IPA, Morning Star French Oak Vanilla Porter as well as a sneak preview of the never before tasted, Barleywine (still a working title). The Gallery’s Head Chef, Vincenzo, will whip up a delicious barbecue menu laden with Southern-inspired dishes which will provide the perfect accompaniment to the beer and bourbon.
Tickets will include four flights of whisky, four samples of beer and barbecue food pairings. The Gallery has also devised a selection of cocktails especially for the night based on the whiskies highlighted, which will be available to purchase at the end of the session. Boasting a collection of 101 whiskies alongside more than 35 draught, bottled and can beers, The Gallery have hand selected their collection from around the world to cover all tastes and styles. The food menu at The Gallery has been inspired by their extensive whisky collection and incorporates unique whisky notes into the dishes. All Star Lanes Releases Star Spangled Banger This Independence Day
The Fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day the world declared in one voice; we will not go hungry into the night! Boutique bowling experts All Star Lanes are adding an extra slice of Americana with their limited edition Dagwood Burger and a cocktail list that proudly salutes to our state-side cousins. The Dagwood Burger is 6 inches of magnificent layered goodness, 12oz of prime, double chuck and rib patties and including fresh cuts of cured salami, spicy chorizo, deli sliced turkey, holey Swiss Cheese topped off with a runny, sunny-side egg in a toasted brioche bun (£17.50).
In between monster bites wash it all down with one of All Star Lanes patriotic potions. Those with a sweet tooth will love the Bubble and Blue Fizz, prosecco topped with Blue Curacao and candy bubble-gum syrup or the Forefather, nutty Amaretto, Buffalo Trace, drops of Kahlua and thick Hibiscus syrup (£8). For those who find milkshakes a bit tame, feast on the Bye Bye Miss American Pie – vodka, biscuit, vanilla ice cream, sweet caramel syrup, topped with Chantilly cream and dusted with apple and cinnamon pie sprinkles (£8). Or see stars with the shot trio aptly named Red, White and Blue which are coloured accordingly (£10).
England may not be able to vote in the presidential primary but All Star Lanes are giving bowlers a chance to cast their opinions with liquid liberations. Making America great again is the Trump-a-Rita, an ode to America’s neighbours, with El Jimador Blanco Tequila, spicy Ginger Liqueur and fresh lime shaken with slices of oranges. Or if thirsty bowlers elect for wine like Hilary, go for the Hilary Wurl-Spritzer a mix of fruity sloe gin, crisp Zinfandel Rosé , flowery Orgeat, fresh lemon topped with soda (both £8).

Smith & Wollensky has been serving up the finest USDA dry aged steak to hungry Londoners since launching last year and is the ideal spot to celebrate America’s Independence this July with a full weekend of USA themed food, drink and festivities.
