Much like the last book you read or your last holiday, sometimes the last experience you have becomes your favourite, a special memory you’ll treasure forever, until you turn the last page of a new book, or return home, hand in hand, from another trip, date or adventure. With this in mind, here at Hero & Leander we are always looking to dive into the next experience but sometimes it isn’t about making the biggest, wildest splash. Instead we are looking at unparalleled spa experiences, where you can dive in, float around, relax, and take in your surroundings, and one another; the latter as the favourite element that you’ll treasure most.
Titanic Spa, Huddersfield
Nestled deep within the natural landscape of Pennine Yorkshire sits a beautifully restored textile mill, the UK’s first eco spa. Titanic Spa is a luxurious haven for some R&R whereby you can creep into their Mud Chamber together for a shared private experience involving organic mud, herbal steam and a relieving tropical rain shower. It may seem like fun and games but the treatment itself is inspired by the ancient Egyptian bathing ritual, an unforgettable spa treatment that leaves you equally satisfied, refreshed and relaxed. As to be expected the facilities are luxurious, living up to their award accolades, but the particularly cosy feature about a retreat here lies within the picture-perfect accommodation apartments. Unlike a hotel spa, here you stay within a serviced apartment with a delicious breakfast bundle delivered to your room. Breakfast in bed together as you gaze out to the rolling hills of Yorkshire? Yes please.

Limewood, New Forest
If you didn’t fall in love among beautiful, old gnarled olive trees with a camomile lawn beneath your feet and the delicious fragrance of bay and apple in the air, then you finally have your chance to within the gardens at Limewood. This dreamy spa location is perfect for couples (or even if one of you) wishes to add a little sparkling romance back into the relationship. Bedrooms are furnished in the Regency-era style, you can connect spiritually doing yoga within their roof top gardens, enjoy dual treatments at the spa and enjoy delicious juices and smoothies at Raw & Cured. Our favourite has to be the ‘Cheeky Monkey’ a morish blend of Cocoa, Banana, Yogurt, Honey & Chilli!

Barnsley House Hotel & Spa, Cotswolds
When looking for a spa retreat you may have a list of things you want it to have, a couple of boxes you wish to tick. Barnsley House Hotel & Spa makes you forget the notion of tickable boxes or a list of desires. The spa is forget-to-think-about-the-outside-world-gorgeous. Whether you know to be excited about the Aromatherapy Associates products or not, their incredible scents will capture the purest sensations of relaxation you have ever felt. After a day pampering at the spa you can order a box of popcorn and take your seats at the hotel’s intimate cinema. The seats are two-seaters, too, perfect for snuggling and so so good when you both smell like spa-fairies!

Macdonald Bath Spa, Bath
Instagram-perfect landscape gardens and a city rich in history and romance surround this 5* spa location. The Georgian hotel itself stands proud, beyond rows of manicured lawns and orange, red and yellow pansies, inviting you beyond its opulent entrance into a grand hotel and beautifully lit spa. For couples that have spent the day wandering from museum to museum or exploring the town and enjoying ice cold beer from jugs at the Star Inn (a gorgeous 16th century, oak-panelled pub) the spa offers a much needed ‘Ramblers Retreat’ treatment. This combines a soothing foot ‘delight’ and a sensual deep tissue back massage. I love the scent of Manoi oil, which is used within the treatment, to add a little luxury and vital energy into the body after a cultural day of exploration. Foot rubs become a lot more frequent after the experience – double win.

St Brides, Pembrokeshire
When reminded of this breath-taking cliff top location I always think of my favourite 19th century romance novel, the connection you feel to the marine location here, and the delicious food offered too. To elope here would be bliss, with each turn of your head the natural beauty of the landscape soothes the soul, sending you floating miles and miles away from thoughts of home and work. At St Brides you can truly soak up some undisturbed time together, cosy in fluffy towels as the sea breeze howls around outside. Treatments sweep the gentle tide of relaxation over you, before you’ve even realised that it is in fact crushed sea-shells that are used to exfoliate the skin, and that yes, you can smell seaweed! (Seaweed is a key ingredient for the selected spa brands here). End your evening, fingertips touching, floating on the hydrotherapy pool, counting the glittering stars, and your blessings. Bliss.
