When was the last time that you truly, ‘got away from it all’. We live stressful 24hour lives and the downside of this is we don’t switch off. This can have adverse effects on our relationships. Well there’s an answer; it all boils down to escaping our hectic lives and taking time out to reconnect. Aro Ha Wellness Retreat is situated near Queenstown on New Zealand’s beautiful South Island. Opening last year it is picking up award after award. It’s purpose? To provide its guests with complete escapism and adventures in wellbeing. To forget everywhere that you have been and to re-charge. It is designed so that guests experience new challenges and adventure and in turn refresh their body and mind. Couples looking to reinvigorate themselves are sure to benefit from a visit to Aro Ha and direct the focus back to themselves instead of the office.
Aro Ha is a resort that has been purpose built based around the concept of a health and wellness retreat. The views from the internal spaces fully integrate the resort with the magnificence of the outside world. And this part of the world is truly breathtaking. Deep lake filled azure blue canyons make way for snow capped peaks and clear blue skies. In fact the location was purposefully chosen due to it’s topography. It is perfect not only visually but also for its access to adventure hikes and kayaking.
The resort features 12 eco-suites & 8 monastic singles, totalling 20 guest rooms. The eco-suites benefit from their own foyer, tea making area, shower room and toilet. With the views that are on offer, you don’t need anything else. The single rooms are located in 2 blocks of 4 each with their own foyer. The architecture is constructed on Passive Haus methods and technologies ensuring that each accommodation unit can inform its users the consumption of power and water. Environmental awareness is absolutely paramount to Aro-Ha and this way of thinking runs through the sites 11 buildings. In addition to the accommodations there is a beautifully modern designed communal building, a Spa, massage & treatment rooms and the Aro Ha room, a multi-functional studio space. All the buildings on site are fully sustainable and even the roof and grey water is re-purposed meaning that the impact of the resort on the surrounding natural habitat is kept to an absolute minimum. Even in some cases ensuring that resources are regenerated to be given back.
Guests buy into an all-inclusive experience meaning there are no further cost decisions to be made and your wallet can be left in your room. This means that access to the Spa is included and you and your partner can benefit from a hot tub, cold plunge pool, Finnish sauna, infra-red sauna and a cooling bed to fully relax.
So what do guests typically do in a day where computers are left at home and communications over telephones are completely absent? Well an ordinary day may commence with an early sunrise yoga session followed by an energising breakfast. Wellbeing is key. Then after a good healthy feed it’s time to get those legs moving and experience the wild nature of the South Island. This may take 3 or 4 hours, so a full lunch is definitely earned. The afternoon is then a complete body and mind regeneration period. Spa time is followed by massages and strength training. The programme is also fully informative with guests being offered nutritional demos so that they can take their learning of food home with them. It’s important for guests to fully understand the merits of this retreat rather than slip back into the stress of the city when it’s all over. Dinner is followed with some communal time and if necessary the spa again. Aro – Ha state that a proven template is used to their days so that guests are exposed to ‘a mix of teachings, guides, practices, nature and wellbeing adventures, all chosen for their complementary activities.’
All retreat pricing is fully inclusive with absolutely no add-ons. Prices start at NZD$4550 pp for a 5 day Adventure in Wellbeing retreat. Aro – Ha also offer 6 & 7 day retreats.
