Set to open in the heart of Amsterdam at the end of May, Kimpton® De Witt is the first European luxury hotel from leading boutique brand, Kimpton® Hotels & Restaurants. Amsterdam is full of trendy boutique hotels but from what we have seen here at H&L, the Kimpton De Witt redefines modern luxury and is at the top of our ‘must visit’ list.
In true Kimpton style, the hotel has a playful, provocative edge with thoughtfully curated design that honours the local heritage — from the striking ‘living wall’ of vibrant florals and botanicals trailing the entrance, to the large Delft-inspired tiles lining the floors. The hotel also offers an interior open-air courtyard and its very own flower shop. Bedrooms embody the spirit of the modern collector, incorporating unexpected yet refined touches, such as the contemporary interpretations of classic Dutch art and the bird bedside lights that reflect their glow onto blush marble tables.
Although this is not a boutique hotel (the hotel has 274 guest rooms, including 15 signature rooms and suites — many of which have private terraces), Kimpton De Witt is set within three original Renaissance-era buildings and combines locally inspired touches. Within the property stands a four storey ‘Little House’ which dates back to the 1500s and was once the childhood home of the Dutch playwright, P.C. Hooft. The Little House can be rented privately for groups looking for the privacy and luxury of their own abode; it offers ground floor meeting space, a first floor living area with luxuriant couches, bar stools and a plentiful wet bar.
Kimpton is loved in the US for its highly personal approach to guest service, bold and playful design, and a truly local feel. True to style, the Kimpton De Witt near Amsterdam’s Centraal station will feature some of Kimpton’s much-loved touches, such as complimentary bikes to explore the city and its famous ‘Wine Hour.’
“We are excited to be bringing Kimpton to Europe, which is where the brand has always taken its inspiration,” said IHG’s Vice President for Luxury & Boutique Brands, Tom Rowntree. “Kimpton has its roots in the US but we see a strong future for the brand in Europe, with popularity for boutique experiences continuing to rise. While every Kimpton is different, all Kimpton hotels focus on pleasing guests in unusual and thoughtful ways, which is what makes an experience truly memorable.” And here at H&L we couldn’t agree more.
