Texas Joe’s Slow Smoked Meats opened its doors earlier this month to serve traditional BBQ meats done as they should be done – the Texas way. If that’s not enough, there’s a honky-tonk bar thrown it too with a jukebox and all the bourbon and tequila you can work your way through. Established by Joe Walters a native of Texas, born in Dallas decided to bring the Texan spirit to London when he moved there in 2011. After his appearance on Dragon’s Den with the Original Jerky Company he’s gone from strength to strength and this new venture is sure to please those meat aficionados.
The menu is all about the lone star state. Traditional meats and cuts are met with a heavy dose of smoke, salt and pepper. The signature pieces include USDA beef brisket, beef prime rib and pork shoulder as well as mutton shoulder and ribs. Make sure you order the amazing sides too such as bone marrow with chilli salt, oxtail chilli or brisket nachos.
The restaurant is inspired by those back road BBQ joints found all over Texas, where people flock and queue to get their favourite cuts. Furniture is vintage or handmade creating an authentic feel and explicitly tries to move away from those cliché touches that are common in so many BBQ restaurants in the England capital.
