Finding the perfect place to celebrate seven years of our relationship together took some time. Staycations are few and far between because so many equate the same spend as a short break abroad and it often appears so much more appealing and exciting to jet off somewhere new. This year we committed to finding something special, romantic and new in the UK. Bailiffscourt ticked our boxes; it was exactly what we would have wanted to find abroad but just a two hour drive away. The charming medieval venue offers log fire bedrooms and four poster beds, sumptuous candlelit dining, an award-winning spa and 30 acres of private parkland leading to Climping beach. Smug because we weren’t having to queue at an airport to experience all this and pleased at the prospect that we could make it there in time for an evening dinner reservation we hopped in the car away from our office desks towards the coast for our weekend. If you plan to arrive by helicopter, you can do that too, parking just beyond the lawn by the spa.
Elegant peacocks roam the grounds and under the British evening sun the venue looked special, a space that your imagination could really run away with you. A retreat for a king and queen, prince, princess, a couple looking forward to drinking a cup of tea looking out of the lattice windows from the four poster bed – us. The rooms have wonderful high ceilings, huge bathrooms with free-standing, deep bathtubs and double sinks. Temple Spa goodies are generous and are often a hit with him and so there’s no squabbling between you as you freshen up before dinner.
Our meal at Bailiffscourt Hotel & Spa was probably one of the most romantic tables we’ve ever had the pleasure of dining at; tucked in at the corner of a candlelit restaurant, the naturally dimming evening light throwing a yellow tinge through the stained glass windows. The menu choices are beautiful and worth mulling over with a glass of wine. Highly recommend the ‘Climping Beach’ starter although play it down as it’s not one you’ll want to share….
The next day, after celebrating with too many bubbles, head to the spa to sweat out your sins and relax together. The pool outside is beautiful in the sunshine and just large enough to do a few lengths to convince yourself you’ve burnt off last night’s sweet treats, without straining the body too much. Drift Away was my treatment of choice, compatible for all couples wishing to unwind, feel comforted and pampered but without feeling helplessly sleepy afterwards. The warm waterbed that supports the body throughout your treatment is a gorgeous upgrade from a normal spa treatment bed – you float off it truly feeling pampered and balanced.
A stay at Bailiffscourt Hotel & Spa is not complete without a trip to the beach or a walk around the grounds together – stunning in the sunshine. It wouldn’t surprise me if you felt the last 24 hours had been a bit fairy-tale perfect after visiting. We certainly did!
