Photographs are such an important part of our past, present and futures- a way of freezing memories in time and preserving precious moments. It is never too late to learn so why not get your creative juices flowing at Shanti Maurice, a lifestyle resort on the largely untouched south coast of Mauritius. Couples can take part in a food photography retreat hosted by critically acclaimed travel photographer, Chris Caldicott. Hone your photography skills and learn how to take mouth-watering instagrammable images (or professional holiday snaps) whilst in one of the most beautiful locations on earth. Taking place from the 20th – 24th August 2016, budding photographers of all levels are invited to embark upon a five-day culinary journey through Mauritius, soaking up the sights, sounds, and of course flavours that the island has to offer.
Armed with their cameras, participants will have a chance to capture the hustle and bustle of island life with a trip to the Port Louis and Mahebourg food markets. The culinary tour continues to the Pamplemousses Botanical Gardens, one of the world’s top botanical gardens, formally laid out in 1768 by French horticulturist and missionary Pierre Poivre.
To educate budding shutterbugs on landscape photography, Chris will take guests on an expedition to The Black River Gorge, the largest National Park in Mauritius renowned for its stunning vistas and waterfalls. Chris will continue to instruct guests on how to capture the in-land beauty of the island, with a trip to the Eureka Plantation, a perfectly preserved Creole mansion reminiscent of Mauritius’ rich colonial history, and nearby rural villages. Photographers will also have the opportunity to go on an early morning excursion to the breathtaking Le Morne Brabant Mountain, where they will be able to grasp the importance of natural light whilst photographing this dramatic basaltic rock peak, dotted with caves.
