Where/How did you meet?
We met at work. We worked for the same advertising agency in different teams, for different clients. We didn’t even really know about each other for maybe the first two months, when Zuzu started to work there. After a while we accidentally started to talk and we realised we had so many things in common…
It’s a kinda funny “date”. There was a bomb alarm at work (it wasn’t a confirmed alarm), so everybody had to leave the building. So we left and went for a walk. Then and there we realised we liked each other. More like a first meet than a date.
First trip away together?
We went on a weekend trip to Budapest. It’s quite close to Bratislava, so it’s nice getaway for a weekend. Budapest is a beautiful place where the history of the city meets the new modern generation. It is good for exploring all the hidden places.
What is your favourite travel destination and why?
We have one rule. Don’t go to the same place twice (there are so many other places to see), but if we could choose we would definitely go back to Tasmania. It’s such a beautiful place on the earth. We did a trip around with the campervan and we slept in places we had only ever dreamed of. We spent the whole time amongst nature; skipping all the cities. Tasmania is a very diverse place. Beautiful beaches, rain forests, tracks and remote places, where you can watch penguins and gaze upon that beautiful night sky.
What has been your favourite hotel that you have ever stayed in together?
Well, we’ve never stayed in a hotel room to be honest. We usually use Airbnb to book the room, friend’s places or the campervan.
Tell us about Lens Between Us and Crea Crea Studio…
With Lens Between Us we started almost two years ago, when we were on our holiday in Portugal. We were trying to create an interesting project and we came with Lens Between Us. We both like traveling and of course photography, so somehow it came together naturally. So wherever we are, we face each other, frame up a great composition, and take a picture of each other. The resulting diptychs are creative, well-composed, and whimsical in the best way. A tribute to how their focus is always on each other, the images are part travel photography, part portraiture, and challenging to boot since each shot requires that they figure out not one, but two compositions.
Also the idea to open Crea Crea studio came naturally. As we both have a background in advertising we have passion for design, photography, illustration and social media, so we decided to start to work on our own. We are a digital studio, so we can work from wherever and whenever, which is good, because we can travel and work continuously.
What inspires you to take photos?
It’s about the creativity. We love to capture the situation, the atmosphere. Photography is a kind of journal for us whilst we are travelling and capture the moments of our lives. It’s also a way how we can inspire others to do the same. If we can make it, other people can make it too.
How do you find working together as a couple?
It’s the same as with travelling. We spend a lot of time together, but we know each so well, so we know what works for us. We have also pretty phlegmatic personalities and we don’t get wound up easily (unless we are hungry).
Favourite photo you have taken?
It’s hard to pick just one. We have so many of them; behind each of the photos is our story. But probably some from Tasmania would be on the shortlist.
Highlight of your career together so far?
To have the chance to travel and see the world. It’s a lot of hard work behind it and it’s not ideal sometimes, but it’s doable.
Define your idea of romance?
We had one of these moments in Tasmania (Bruny Island), it was evening, the two of us were in the campervan at the beach watching the night sky (even though it was freezing) nobody around and opened a bottle of wine; it was perfect and beautifully romantic.
What has been your most exciting adventure together?
The trip around Aussie in the campervan. We have done 11 000km from Sydney to Perth (around the north coast) and in Western Australia in Exmouth we swam with whale sharks. That was an amazing experience. To be out there in the ocean in the middle of nowhere with these gentle giants was breath-taking. That was the perfect connection to nature for us. You feel the overwhelming happiness and respect at the same time.
What is the most romantic thing you have ever done together?
We quit our everyday jobs in Slovakia and started to live together and moved to Australia.
Favourite place to eat in the world?
Our mums and grandma’s kitchen.
How would you describe yourselves as a couple?
Adventure seekers and nature lovers.
What do you have planned next?
Hopefully New Zealand and trip to Europe.
What is your dream trip?
There are so many. South America, India, Iceland,…
Be happy, do what we love to do and travel the world.
