In line with the launch of Britain’s new £5 note that features Sir Winston Churchill’s portrait, The Wellesley this autumn is celebrating with an afternoon tea in honour of the British icon. This offering also culminates in the anniversary of his passing on 30th November 1874 and his keen interest in cigars and cognac – an interest that the hotel shares with him.
“We’ve combined Churchill, a quintessentially British figure, with our traditionally Italian food offering to create a unique afternoon tea menu that will be enjoyed by guests of all ages.”
A delightful way to spend an afternoon in plush surroundings with a selection of finger sandwiches, filo pastry cigars with a dark chocolate mousse or perhaps an indulgent cheesecake tartelette and mandarin dome. If you want more then there are also bowler hat shaped tiramisu cups and rum and coffee lollypops. A selection of teas also awaits you, specifically the Churchill Blend tea that is blended with almonds and pieces vanilla.
For those that wish to take this experience to the next level, you can also stay in the Churchill suite booking alongside the afternoon tea. The full Churchill package can be booked for two sharing from £2,500.
The Churchill Afternoon Tea is served daily from 2pm to 6pm, and is available now for £35pp, or £50pp including Champagne. Live piano is performed daily.
Those booking the Churchill Champagne Afternoon Tea through The Wellesley’s website between 1 to 30 November 2016, will be entered into a competition to win dinner for two in the Jazz Lounge. Terms and conditions apply.
The full Churchill package, including an overnight stay in the Winston Churchill Suite, is available from £2,500 based on two people sharing. Subject to availability.
