For those that are big fans of beer and partying, a trip to Munich right now is no doubt a great idea. It’s Oktoberfest right not, until October 3rd and the city is throwing the biggest of festivals. Beer tents are the main attraction where thousands of people party through the day and night sampling the finest beers from magnificent stein glasses. Some of the tents hold over 5,000 people so don’t worry, it’s not a quiet event! What’s more, entry to the event is free.

To give the festival another air of authenticity, visitors are encouraged to wear traditional clothing – did somebody say lederhosen, bavarian hats and leather pants? Yet it is now just about beer. There are fantastic fairground areas that you can let your hair down on, although perhaps best not to go on crazy rides with too many beers inside you.

So what are you waiting for, head over to Munich and enjoy a schnitzel with that stein.

Oktoberfest has been operating since 1810 and is now a huge part of Bavarian culture, with over 6 million visitors to the festival each year. That’s a hell of a lot of beer consumption! In fact, in 2013 over 7 million litres were served. Originally the festival did take place with all dates in October, however it was moved to September to take advantage of the regions better climate, particularly the warmer evenings. It is now ensured that the final weekend concludes in October.
